Due to the country’s coronavirus quarantine, they were left without income. Their situation had become so dire that the whole family depended on Franyuli's parents for food.

Eduar is an athletic trainer and Franyuli stays home to take care of their children, Ruth and Eli. The couple are members of the El Cambio Church of the Nazarene in the Venezuela-Llanos District.

During the days when they had nothing to eat, Franyuli was participating in the National Online Congress of Women of the Church of the Nazarene. While attending, she remembered that one of the speakers said: “At this moment, the blessing is going to come to your house!"

At that same moment, a person came asking for Franyuli and delivered a large supply of food. This person who arrived only told the family: "I woke up this morning and felt it in my heart to bring this to you."

In addition to the provision of food, the family also received approximately 50 kilos of clothes, shoes, and even gifts to celebrate Eli’s birthday. Without a doubt, the provisions were a miracle of God. Although the person who brought them the food and clothing did not know the difficult economic situation they were going through, God did know and heard their prayers.

--Church of the Nazarene South America

Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21415921.post-54410745867795857522021-02-17T10:41:00.003-08:002021-02-17T10:43:00.612-08:00NILI 38
 Nazarene International Language Institute

NILI 38 began at Quito Nazarene Seminary on Jan 14th with welcoming Carlynn, Grace, and Elyse from Olivet University.

Below they answer the question...

“What is something culturally different than the US that you have learned about?”

Carlynn: The concept of Carnaval. The NAF would like to welcome Matt and Andréa Hoptster from California to Quito, Ecuador. They will be involved with various ministries in Quito. Andrea will be helping with NILI and learning finances. Matt will be learning Spanish and helping with Work and Witness.

Andréa, was born into a military family, moving all over the United States, until her father accepted a call into ministry. Through these experiences, she grew to have a passion for learning about new cultures. God began to stir within her a call to missions, which led her to Mount Vernon Nazarene University. While at MVNU, Andréa studied abroad in both Campinas, Brazil, and San Jose, Costa Rica. Andréa graduated with a degree in Intercultural Studies and Spanish and continued her educational journey to Biola University (La Mirada, CA) where she earned her M.A. in Linguistics & Biblical Languages. She also happened to meet a guy working at a coffee shop!

Matthew Hopster was born in the desert (Las Vegas) and felt a sense of God calling him to deepen his faith at a young age. While attending a Christ in Youth Camp, he prayed to receive salvation. Matt enjoys connecting with people, and God is using that passion in his call and ministry. He graduated from Hope International University with a degree in Youth and Family Ministries. When he met the girl at the coffee shop, he heard about the Church of the Nazarene, and has now completed the course of study and is awaiting ordination!

"Please join us in prayer that we may fulfill God’s desire for us in this amazing field!"
Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21415921.post-9676425258261462992021-02-17T10:30:00.002-08:002021-02-17T10:42:08.779-08:00Goodbye's are Hard!
With a very heavy heart, we said good-bye to the Clark family as they took a pastoral position in their hometown, Lewistown, ID. Paul and Alyssa were born and raised in Lewistown. Alyssa went to college at the University of Idaho and got a degree in Early Child Development. She enjoys baking, reading, and spending time with friends. Paul grew up as an active member at Lewiston FirstNaz. After graduating from Lewiston High School, he attended Northwest Nazarene University, and Asbury Theological Seminary to prepare academically to be a pastor. Since 2008 he has served in full-time ministry, most of that time as a pastor in Central Washington, and most recently as a missionary in Ecuador.

Paul loves to challenge people to be obedient to Jesus, and to see God change people’s lives. He finds refreshment in strong cups of coffee, long bicycle rides, and telling dad jokes to his daughters, Rosalie and Evelyn.

The Clark family came to Ecuador in "16 to serve in any possible way they could be used. During the time in Quito, they were fully involved and were a great addition to various ministries. The girls, Rosalie and Evelyn attended private schools that fully involved the whole family in cultural programs. Not only were they involved in school culture activities but Paul and Alyssa and the girls took every opportunity to participate in cultural invitations that came to them.

The Clark family was dearly loved by the Ecuador Church for their openness to listen, serve and participate and learn something new at any time.

Please remember to pray for the Clark family in this time of transition and making a new life in Pastoral Ministry.

Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21415921.post-59451736884349331032021-02-15T13:04:00.002-08:002021-02-15T13:04:43.502-08:00Birth Announcement
Angel and Krista Sigui would like to introduce their new son Samuel Elijah who was born Jan. 7, '21 at 6:53 pm. On January 31, 2021, the church celebrated a grand harvest through an exciting baptism event held at the Sierra Centro District center. The baptisms were the fruit of evangelism, discipleship, and mentoring of several families who have experienced miracles of healing and provision during the Covid-19 pandemic.

For more than eight months, during the time of crisis in which many churches are closing, the different ministries of this local church have continued to produce fruit using virtual means like Facebook and Zoom; this church is celebrating the baptism of 36 people including preteens, teens, young adults, and adults. "We believe this is a result of our faithful 5:00 am prayer ministry which stands daily as a pillar for everything that happens in the church," Paredes said.

In the final months of 2020, the church has been working to strengthen this group, (85% of which are new believers) through programs for couples, young adults, women, and children among others. It is a source of great joy to see our new Christian brothers and sisters’ public act of obedience. We believe in a God who has not stopped, in spite of the circumstances, but instead, has used these events to call the lost to an intimate relationship with their creator, and for that reason, we continue raising Christlike disciples.

“We hope these people too will freely give that which they freely have received,” Paredes said. “We hope they will share the good news with their families so that we may continue winning people for Christ.”

--Church of the Nazarene South America

Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21415921.post-3322560670737341692021-01-04T15:08:00.003-08:002021-01-04T15:08:45.615-08:00We Reached our Goal!!
We are starting the year out with great news and a big thank you to all donors for faithfully giving!! Praise the Lord!! We needed $15,000, $7,500 was raised and will be matched for the San Vicente Property on the Sierra Centro District.

A huge thank you to special NAF Partners, who are business owners and committed to match what was raised. When the pandemic started it was evident that the company of the NAF business owner needed to lay off 200 workers but with God's leading, stepping out on faith and creative business thinking they turned around their business and not only didn't need to lay off the 200 workers but had to hire more!!! Praise the Lord for these blessings!

San Vicente is a church plant, a daughter church, of the San Miguel Church of the Nazarene in the beautiful Andes Mountains in the province of Bolivar. Pastors Alex and Cynthia are the pastors of the San Miguel church and have planted 3 other works in the area. This church is just one of the new church plants in this district, that is reaching out to more than 8,000 children. The churches start with 200 children who are taught about God, in return, those children impact the lives of their parents to turn their hearts toward the Lord.

You are a part of families being changed, a community being changed.

During this time the children are not meeting for classes but packages of food are being delivered to their homes monthly.

Thank you for your faithfulness in giving and prayer. The work of the Lord goes forward because of wonderful people like you.

Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21415921.post-8558950165810786402021-01-04T14:58:00.002-08:002021-01-04T15:01:18.501-08:00Medley of Hymns From the Children and Youth Orchestra

This is the Orchestra from Sierra Central District in Ecuador. When the church needed online Children's Missionary Lessons for Sunday School they knew who would be perfect for the task.

When Jen is asked to do something she goes into 100% creative mode. She wanted the children to have a full understanding of missions around the world so she contacted missionary families of different world areas to share about their countries. She made 4 lessons that each have a correlation to a Bible Story which is watched during the flight. Jen wanted the children to learn that the most important thing they can do is pray for missionaries worldwide.

She created videos of in-flight teaching lessons with her being the flight attendant and her daughter being the passenger, flying on the made-up Missionary Airplane called "Nazair" Airlines, to the different countries learning about the cultures.

They flew from Ecuador to the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea. The children from these countries did a great job of sharing in the video where they lived, a little bit about their language, food, and prayer requests for their family and country. It was exciting for the children watching to see what other countries are like and to connect with missionary children and some of their pets. They now have a better world view of where missionaries live and what the children do.

Jen has served as a Support Missionary in Venezuela, Ecuador, and now she and her husband serve as Work and Witness Coordinators in Peru. There was no time to transition from the celebratory meetings to holding services via the internet and social media.

Very few pastors in Colombia were prepared for this challenge. Some congregations with appropriate infrastructure were able to organize their communications equipment and broadcast using Zoom, Facebook, YouTube, and some even through WhatsApp.

Regardless of the medium, God is working in each congregation and the message of Christ continues being preached in the country.

Many congregations now have different prayer groups during the week, and some of them have groups every day at dawn.

“We decided to spend one hour in prayer every day,” said Juan Carlos Soto, pastor to Por Su Gracia Iglesia del Nazareno and superintendent of the North Central District. “This week is our 26th week of daily prayer.”

“Our prayer time is divided into segments: we are holiness people, therefore we pray for sanctification. We intercede for the families, as the family as a whole is being impacted during this time. We pray for the local and national church. We pray for our national and local authorities, for God to grant them wisdom to lead. We pray for the sick and for those who are hurting. We use the last 10 minutes to pray for any prayer requests we receive on the Facebook live chat. We attribute this time of revival to prayer.”

Church attendance has been increasing as well, and leaders have seen people come back to the church. Soto believes it’s the prayer.

“We’ve made 85 contacts, and out of those, 25 are in the membership process,” Soto said. “I can testify that the church continues to move forward. The numbers have not decreased but increased. She saw a need on the seminary campus where she is living. Although Nayara is serving as Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) Regional Assistant for the South America Region, she noticed that the children needed a little help socializing together. Nayara started teaching classes every 2 weeks. Since the 9 children represNayaraenting 7 different world areas are multicultural, she chose the theme, "What is my Identity?" There are topics such as, "Understanding my emotions and feelings", "Being conscious of who am I", and "Who can I be in relation to God". This is very important for children to learn at this age and during this time.

When asked, why she wanted to start this ministry, Nayara's reply was, "I said 'here I am' to the Lord, I saw the need, and was willing to serve them. Samaritans Purse sponsors the Operation Christmas Child project where volunteers make up shoeboxes full of necessary items and fun treats that are sent to ove100 countries in the world as outreach to share the Gospel.

The team loaded up their cars and traveled for an hour, then the road ended and they either walked or rode horses or donkeys before entering the communities. The furthest community required walking for an hour and/or riding a donkey, mule, or horse for half an hour for the rest of the way. All of the paths were a slippery uphill hike with rocks covered by water or mud. The third community was able to be reached by car.

They took 171 Christmas Operation Child boxes to children between the ages of 2 to 17 in the 3 communities. They shared the Gospel with them of how much God loves them. The evangelism team took what little food they could afford which was bread and sardines, and a common oatmeal drink. During a previous visit to this area, they gave some clothes the church had collected, and washed, and cut the hair of the children.

The Mendez church is planning on another project to these same communities of bringing food, medicine, shampoo, giving haircuts, sports, doing puppet shows, and other dramas.

They are hoping to name these areas as missions of the Church of the Nazarene in this zone. They have 4 other communities with over 180 children they hope to evangelize also.

Pastors Rodolfo and Elena were former District Superintendents in Venezuela and have been pastors of the Mendez Church of the Nazarene for 2 years. The Mendez church is on the Austro District.

Pray for this small church as they continue to raise funds to minister to their neighboring communities. Their service also saved the Church of the Nazarene tens of thousands of dollars because Nazarene missionary kids received a huge discount because of their work.Morris

They will be returning, early Monday morning, June 22 to the USA and settling in the Fort Myers area where they were teachers for 33 1/2 years before moving to Quito.

Upon arrival, they are going to quarantine themselves in a nice quiet place and continue teaching to finish out the school year, travel around to visit family, spend a week or so hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and then they will look for a house and get settled into a new life.

When asked, Morris' said they will miss many things about the students. This is what they shared, "The thing that struck us most when we started working at the school here was having students who wanted to learn. We would get to the school around 6 a.m. (even when we lived at the seminary) and have students show up to get extra help. We would stay after to work with students because they wanted the extra help. We loved working with these students! When Keith was telling the students that it was time for us to be closer to our grandchildren, one of his students said, "But Mr. Morris, you have 14 and 15-year-olds here who need you!" The spiritual discussions and life discussions we have been able to have with our students here have been priceless. We may have impacted lives around us, but these students and fellow workers have impacted us to a great extent. We now have friends all over the world!

Keith had an extremely touching experience that happened this week. One of his former students just graduated from dental school. She contacted Keith to schedule a teeth cleaning. She refused to let him pay for it and instead gave him a gift. She and her dad who owns the dental office refused payment because they said they loved him and wanted to do this for him. We taught in the states for 33 1/2 years. Rarely if ever did students or parents ever thank us for the hours we put in to help their children. Here, they don't stop thanking you and want to keep in contact with you."

In conclusion, the Morris would like to say.

"We are going to greatly miss the beautiful people and country. But, starting last summer, God kept nudging us with sermons, devotionals and messages about how important it was for us to be in the lives of our grandkids and children. Every time we started thinking maybe one more year, another message or devotional would remind us that our children and grandchildren need us. It is painful to say good bye, but it is also exciting to have the opportunity to spend more time with family.

We have greatly appreciated the kind words and prayers of our fellow missionaries here in South America. Our prayers are with you, that God would open new doors and opportunities to minister to the people in this beautiful part of the world. May God protect you and keep you safe as you continue to minister."

Please be in prayer for Keith and RuthAnn as they settle into retirement.

Andean Adventurehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16777818673586219824noreply@blogger.com0
