Connecting to Serve

A team of eight from the Nazarene Global Mission IT team, sometimes known as the Nazarene Nerd Herd, came to Ecuador to make major improvements on the internet system.  The team was made up of, team leader Josh Williams, his wife Brandi and their son Logan.  Two grandfathers, Barry and Merlyn and their grandsons, Andrew and Hayden, and Ben a returning IT guy.  An IT team came to Ecuador 6 years ago and made a return trip to update the internet system at the Quito Seminary/Conference Center and Mission Campus.

The team put their heads together and designed a plan that would best suit the needs of all ministries that take place on campus.  Time was short for all that was needed to be done but they pulled old wires, strung new cables, climbed high places, performed some acrobatic moves, crawled in tight spaces, and worked on top of roofs to improve the service. Praise the Lord for his protection during the week.

When the internet is working properly everyone is happy and now they will be happier because people on the campus will be able to connect all at one time.  The campus is used for many ministries.  CENIC, the conference center hosts groups as large as 300 or more.  There are 8 families that live on campus as well as seminary students.  NILI, the Nazarene Language Institute has students living on campus. The Chapel and Soccer field are rented out weekly.  The Seminary, Communications, Mission Office, NILI, CENIC are all functioning ministries during the week.

The team also did some major upgrading for the Work and Witness Center for the three families that live on that property.

The Campus residents and staff feel safe and are thankful for all the new security with the neat lights and cameras that are now on campus.

More than anything the IT team provided high tech communications for online students, leaders, pastors, and future pastors from other countries to be able to study through the classes being offered by the seminary.   These pastors and leaders will win people to Christ in their countries as well as in Ecuador and in turn plant seeds for more pastors and leaders and it will continue on and on.

"Global Missions IT is a team of Nazarene missionaries and volunteers around the world who work to help meet the technology needs of the mission and educational arms of the Church of the Nazarene," Williams said. "This core group provides technological tools and support that help missionaries, staff, and educators around the world make Christlike disciples in the nations."
