Building Bridges Through Ministry

The Peoria Nazarene church and New Beginnings church from Peoria IL partnered together to form a Worker Witness team to Ecuador. The two pastors of the churches had met, and the New Beginnings
Church had many outreach projects while the Peoria Nazarene church had taken many International Missions trips. The two pastors wanted to learn from each other how to minister better so the New Beginnings church took their first international missions trip to Ecuador.

The team worked in a Quichua Indigenous area in South Quito at the Buen Sembrador Church. The church itself was well advanced in the construction as they bought the land, poured the floor and put the walls up of the first floor. They had asked missionary Jon Fischer for some help with steel for beams and one Saturday they welded all the beams at the WnW shop. Missionary Jon wanted to help this congregation and found a team that could help them put on the roof of their 2nd floor. A few weeks before the team came the church people poured the floor of the second story.

The team was pleased to see the progress the church had made with their own funding and the hard
work that had already been done.

This was not going to be an easy project since the roof was 3 feet higher than normal. While the team
put up the roof structure with the church people more people built walls for Sunday School classrooms on the 1st floor and started to put the walls up for the 2nd floor. There were workers everywhere!  It has always been said while working with the indigenous people, never try to outwork them, even the ladies, they will outwork you every time!

God protected everyone working on the high scaffolding and he protected Work and Witness worker
Harrison Guamán while welding close to power lines.

Missionary and Ministries Director of the NILI program, Jennifer Guamán and the NILI students worked along with the
team in children's ministry. Some learned new Quichua phrases and the children enjoyed learning many
English words but loved their coloring pages that went with their Bible stories.

The team was amazed by the participation of the church people, leaving their jobs behind for the week and the amazing meals that were prepared for them.

Pastor Johnson from the New Beginnings church during the week had been bending rebar squares that are used to hold the
columns together to make the structure solid and during the closing service, he made an illustration with how we need to link together arm in arm and support each other to build a strong church of God.
