Tell the Story

We are all familiar with the stories about Jesus in the Bible but do we really know them?  The workshop held in Ecuador Dec. 3-7 helped leaders to understand that sometimes we tell these beautiful, familiar stories from our heads and not of from our hearts. We have been told these stories since childhood.

One of the workshop leaders was Rev. Stéphane Tibi, Eurasia Region Education Coordinator. He and his wife are former missionaries of Africa but now are living and serving as Missionaries in Eurasia and living in Switzerland. "Stéphane was raised in an atheist family. He was religiously devoted to science until he ran up against the limitations of science that caused him to lose his faith in its infallibility. But God’s prevenient grace was at work, first opening Stéphane to His love through the film The Mission that led Stéphane to buy his first Bible and read it."  He has a passion for learning.  “I love to learn; it’s my way to live.” And this love of learning led him to explore the use of graphics as an aid in understanding the Bible and theological concepts."   Learn more about Dr. Tibi.  You can go to this website for more information about the development of
Study Maps.

Angle Sigui, another presenter, Master Story Teller, shares the same passion of presenting the stories in a simple way. Along with him to help with training were his wife, Krista Sigui (Fischer) who works at the GMC in Global Education and Clergy Development and Lindsay Eckart, Capacity Development Specialist for Global Mission. Esdras Jiménez, NAF Director of Ministries was also a part of the training.

There are 4 different steps used in telling the story and in one of the steps, there are questions to ask.  One of the questions is, "Put yourself in the story, what do you think God is trying to show you? " Before they answer the question they are to stop and pray about the question and what God wants to show them.

As the participants read through the stories, retold the stories and put themselves into the stories they learned that knowing the story and feeling the story from their heart put a different perspective on the story.

When asked after answering the last question, Rev. Tibi would ask, "How did that make you feel?"  Many were overcome with tears and responded, "peace, comfort, and God loves me."

Not only were the workshops about sharing the stories but also Rev. Tibi shared easy techniques through images to memorize scripture and references of the Gospels and to be able to tell where stories are found in the Bible.  He also shared the way to memorize the 16 Articles of Faith which are the foundational doctrines. These articles help define the theological framework that the Church of the Nazarene affirms. This is a link from NCN about learning the Articles of Faith through study maps.

Workshops were held in Quito and Riobamba and over 50 pastors and leaders attended.  Many were so thankful for the training of making it easy to share the beautiful stories of Jesus. The stories are not just for children but a way to share the Gospel with others.  One of the pastors was so excited that he shared with his church congregation the next morning.

Pray for the leaders in the church and also our seminary to continue to practice and share and train others that sharing the Gospel can be easy through "Tell the Story".
